American Club Membership 2010

The American Club of Lyon has four signature social events. 

1. Homecoming/la rentrée cocktail party,
2. Halloween for Kids,
3. Thanksgiving and
4. 4th of July.

Every two years, along with the city of Lyon, we honor Presidents Day at the Hôtel de Ville by special invitation of Gérard Collomb, Sénateur Maire de Lyon, the United States' Consul and the current president of the American Club of Lyon.

Our club is composed of four different demographic groups, 1. young singles/couples, 2. families (children under 11 years age)  3. families (children 11-18) and 4. mature couples (children in university etc.).

With this diversity of ages, the club encourages members to spontaneously organize social events using the club's Facebook and Yahoo Groups. Members are also encouraged to submit a plan and budget for events they feel will have broad club member appeal for board for approval.

An active membership creates a dynamic club...

The club's primary goal is to secure a permanent clubhouse. It is a place our members have indicated they want for the following activities

• a business center for membership use
• social center for club events & for member to rent for person events
• a place for children's groups to meet for arts, crafts, music and english storytime.

Currently children's activities are self organized by individual members in their homes on a rotating basis.

The annual membership follows the school calendar, starting September 1st until August 31st of the next year. If you joined the club as a new member after May 1st, we consider that you are a full member for the following school year. If you joined us before May 1st 2009 we ask you to renew your membership.

We welcome you to join the American Club of Lyon if you are

• an American citizen
• while living in the USA were granted a legal resident's card (Green Card)
• studied for at least one year in the USA at an American university
• worked in the USA or for an American company

If you want to join because you are a friend of Americans or the USA or wish to learn more about the USA, its people and traditions and you speak fluent English, you are welcome to join as an associate non-voting member upon recomendation of the board. You can also be sponsored by a club member.All memberships are subject to the reveiw by the club membership comittee for final approval.

This club's goal is not only to maintain the traditions of the USA for American citizens living abroad, but also to share them and the positive "can do" spirit of the people of The United States of America in Lyon.

The membership fees are 50€ for a household, 40€ for a single person and 25€ for a student.
